Focal
Privacy Policy
Effective September 1, 2026. Contact details updated October 2026.
Focal keeps core planning data on your device. Cloud AI and Gmail are optional, and message analysis happens only when you ask.
Data stored on your device
Tasks, to-dos, notes, planning preferences, conversation history, AI cache and operational counters are stored locally. Widget data is shared only with Focal’s own widgets and Watch app through the app group. API keys and Gmail OAuth credentials are stored in the Apple Keychain.
Calendar, reminders, speech, Health and notifications
Focal accesses calendar or reminder data only after you grant the relevant system permission. Notification permission is requested when you choose a reminder feature. Voice input uses Apple’s speech-recognition services; Focal does not receive or store the source audio on its servers. If you connect Apple Health, sleep, exercise and State of Mind data are read with separate consent, used on the device for Weekly Insights, and never sent to any AI provider.
Optional Gmail connection
If you connect Gmail, Focal uses Google’s read-only Gmail permission to check only the Primary inbox from the last seven days, with at most 25 messages per full check and 50 pending messages stored locally. Routine checks travel directly between your device and Google’s Gmail API over encrypted connections; message content does not pass through Focal’s server.
Opening a message is local and does not invoke AI. Message text is sent through the AI path described below only after you tap Analyze for tasks. Focal never marks messages read, moves, labels, archives, deletes, sends, or otherwise changes Gmail. Pending content expires after 14 days; resolved entries retain only minimal identifiers and dates for up to 90 days. Disconnecting removes Gmail credentials, staged messages and sync history from the device while keeping tasks you created.
Focal’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Optional cloud AI
When Focal Cloud is enabled, your prompt and the relevant task, to-do, calendar or schedule context are sent to Focal’s Cloudflare Worker and then to the Google Gemini API to generate a response. The Worker does not store prompt or response bodies in a Focal database. Text you share, paste, photograph, or explicitly choose to analyze from Gmail is processed for task extraction only when you ask, and is not stored server-side; the Worker is stateless. Google may retain prompts and responses for a limited period for abuse monitoring under the Gemini API terms.
Requests also include the app version and a random installation identifier. Focal hashes that identifier and the request IP address before storing short-lived rate-limit counters. Minute counters expire after about two minutes and daily counters expire within 48 hours. Raw identifiers and IP addresses are not written to the rate-limit store.
If you configure a personal Google, OpenAI or Anthropic API key, Focal sends AI requests directly to that selected provider instead. The provider’s terms and privacy policy apply. Apple Intelligence, where you choose it, runs on the device.
Service providers
- Cloudflare provides network and Worker infrastructure, and hosts this website.
- Google Gemini API processes Focal Cloud requests.
- Google, OpenAI or Anthropic processes requests when you connect that provider directly.
This website
focalday.app sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. The server keeps standard, short-lived request logs for security.
Tracking and advertising
Focal does not sell personal data, show third-party advertising, use advertising identifiers, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Your choices and deletion
You can leave cloud AI disabled, turn it off in Settings → Angel, clear local AI history and counters, disconnect Gmail in Mail Settings, revoke system permissions in Settings, or delete local app data by deleting Focal. Server-side rate-limit hashes expire automatically. Because Focal does not require an account, it cannot retrieve local planning data from your device.
